Today I woke up very early and ready to run a marathon at 4am. Since the time change here is 4 hours being NY time, I was asleep at 6pm. I am still kinda tired from all of the traveling but at least I was greeted with a shower to get all the airport germs off. Nobody has time for illness, am I right folks? Today I had a meeting with Sarah, who is my supervisor. So at 7am I walked the mile and half to her office at the Middle School. The walk was not bad, the sun was out, kinda. After our meeting, which went really well, we did payroll and all of that super awesome adult job stuff. From our meeting, I decided since it was a nice day to meet Julia in town to pick up some things. I really needed a pillow, that was one item not in my “shit bag” (Peter, I am still bitter) In town we made sure to go into every store and scope out what places had the best deals. We found the best coffee place behind a bookstore called the Backdoor Cafe. Shocker alert- there are no Dunkin's or Starbucks here. Our only commercial business is the shady McDonalds on HPR(Halibut Point Road). It also didn’t help that we were intrigued by all of the Sitka, AK merchandise that the stores were selling to the tourists getting off the cruise ships here. We were in a store called Ben Franklin s, which is kind of like a Harmon, just a lot of different things for sale all under one roof, there I finally found a pillow for a reasonable price. Key word, reasonable. We then just walked around and went to one of the many inlets where boats are docked, it was there Julia and I decided we need to make a friend with a boat. After exploring some more, we made the 2 mile walk back to the Shelikov house. Walking here is no joke. I also have a meeting at the pool to go over lifeguard hours for a nice side job for some extra money. So that will be another walk. I’m excited for that so I can also workout at the pool. Sooooooo, the meetings went really well and now I have a solid 9 hours at the pool this week, which is a nice extra $100.00 a week. It is also a very quiet pool because who is really swimming at 8 at night. I still don’t have my room set up at all other than my bed. It has been a slow moving process with everything going on and trying to get adjusted. This week I have a lot of teacher meetings I need to attend to get acclimated to the high school which I am excited about. I really want to talk to the Principal about art installations on the school walls to include all the Tribal culture in Sitka. Its still raining here. Excited to go hiking tomorrow. I am not really homesick as much as I more or less miss a meal plan and friends to have meals with here. Definitely now as I look back reminds me to not take advantage of DeSales Dining or my friends.

Have a good day fam,

Ashley
